For the 4th straight game, the Avalanche were badly outplayed by Western Conference team currently not in the playoffs. The Avalanche have been up to the task emotionally, nor have they been sharp - especially in their own zone. Meanwhile, the rest of the Western Conference (minus San Jose) seems to win, or at least get a point out of games. This can not continue if you want to see the burgundy and blue playing hockey in late April.
- Going in I had an uneasy feeling about the Anaheim game. When Stewart couldn’t score on his golden chance in the 1st - a goal which would have made it 1-1, that uneasy feeling turned into dread.
- Everyone including the Avalanche should have known that Selanne was going to score his 600th goal tonight. Honestly, he probably should have scored at least 1 more with the chances he got.
- The Avalanche have been outscored 7-0 in the first 30 mins of the last two games.
- I thought Quincey was one of the very few bright spots. His big hit directly led to a Koivu penalty. He finished the game with an assist and was +1. (Of course, they don’t give minuses for goals allowed on the PK - so plus / minus is misleading in a game where the Ducks score 3 PP goals.)
- What did all of these players have in common? Duchene, Stastny, Hejduk, Mueller? If you said “They all had no points and finished as a minus”, you win.
Next game: Monday night in LA, 8:30PM MDT
