I was at the game. It was incredible. Andy was incredible. Thank you Dan Boyle.
You know the drill - let’s look at the 5 things:
5. Win Game 1 or 2 in San Jose. Perma-Check.
4. Get production from Yip and / or Stewart. Not tonight. Neither of them scored or were much of a factor in the game.
3. Contain San Jose’s top line. Check. Thornton / Heatley / Marleau. Heatley was out, and Thornton and Marleau only accounted for 8 of the team’s 51 SOG.
2. Have “Special” Special Teams. Check. Colorado didn’t score on 2 first period chances, but went 6-6 on the PK. And they absolutely needed every one of those.
1. Andy. Check. "AN-DY, AN-DY, AN-DY"
- So I mentioned last post that I stopped following Dater for being negative, and so what did I get at the game? A very talkative gentleman who thought he knew everything about hockey and did nothing but complain about the Avs. He actually was criticizing Andy’s rebound control - it was pretty bad. When he started to talk about how bad Stastny was for the 2nd time halfway through the 3rd, I snapped at him. It kinda felt like I was yelling at Dater.
- “Dater Jr" snickered when Andy mentioned how he couldn’t have done it without his teammates. Snicker all you want but the boys limited San Jose to only a handful of truly dangerous chances and did a nice job of clearing away rebounds. If the Avs stopped working hard in their own zone, San Jose going to get an easy one.
- "Dater Jr" had to ask me who the goal was going to be rewarded to.
- Game 4 is going to be really difficult if Stoa or Hejduk can’t return. We could really use Jones or Mueller to get better right about now.
- There are already at least 3 “History Will Be Made” parity videos featuring Boyle’s O’Reilly goal.
- "How in the world did the Avs score in OT without a SOG? That can't be right! ...Oh wait."
- Bernie is growing a playoff beard.
Next Game: at home against San Jose on Tuesday, 8PM MDT
