Much like last game in Minnesota, the Avs found themselves down early 1-0 and had trouble putting the puck in the net.  Unlike the previous game, it had more to do with facing a hot goaltender, some bad puck luck and perhaps, squeezing the sticks a little too tight then a lack of effort.
And unlike Minnesota, they found a way to get a goal and we able to get the win in the shootout.
  • I felt the Tampa Bay goal was a little inexcusable by Wolski and Stewart.  They cheated out of the zone a little bit and the puck hopped over Wolski’s stick, it happens, but Stewart glided back back into the play and Wolski was nowhere to be seen.  Taking into account the saves Andy made on the first two shots, if they both backcheck, that goal is probably prevented.
  • Wolski bounced back and had a good 3rd period and shootout, “scoring” the only goal and the only goal of the shootout.
  • It was nice to see Wolski finally score in the shootout.  We’re only 3-5 so far, we need to be better.  I don't think there is any question now that the Avs aren't going to run away with this division.
  • Really solid game by Andy.  No way the first goal was his fault - otherwise he stopped everything, including the shootout.
  • McLeod looks like a borderline NHLer right now and Hedjie just simply looks off.  We need both of these guys to step it up.
  • If I were a Lightning fan, I think Tampa Bay’s game would drive me nuts.  They have a bunch of offensive skill, but everything seems to be at frantic pace and too many good opportunities either don’t materialize or don’t hit the net.
  • Friday night sets up a big one at the Pepsi Center on Sunday evening.  The Avs and the Flames each have 42 points (although to be fair, Calgary has played 3 less games.)
