Due to my Christmas travel plans directly coinciding with Avs games, I didn’t see any of the Anaheim game (which, in hindsight was probably a blessing) and I only saw the last 10 mins of the Dallas game (which was enjoyable.)
We’ve seen this type of game about 100 times this season: Avs built a comfortable lead on an inferior opponent, Avs then nearly blow said lead, Andy bails the Avs out, I go to bed happy.  I doubt this is the last time we that happen this season, folks.
  • Anderson didn’t have a fantastic 1st or 2nd, he had some rebound control issues.  But he had a whale of a 3rd period, especially once it became a 1 goal game.  You have to love goaltenders that step up their game when it matters most.
  • Games lacking in penalties really seem to benefit the Avs.  They are very good 5 on 5.
  • I didn’t think Brett Clark did himself any favors to keep from getting his chance to become the  7th defenseman.  He was fighting the puck all game long , he had a great chance in the 2nd period where he could barely get a weak shot to the net and he ran into Quincey on a 3rd period PP that almost gave Ottawa a shorthanded goal (bailed out by an incredibly dumb one timer attempt from Ruutu that badly missed the net.)
  • Cumiskey’s offensive game seemed to pick up where it left off, but his defensive game was rusty.  Cumiskey was a minus 2 and his partner Footer was a minus 3.
  • I didn’t think it was a great defensive game, especially down low in their own zone, for the Avs in general.  If Kovalev and Cheechoo weren’t ice cold, the Avs don’t build that 3 goal lead.
  • This was the first game I got to watch Yip play.  Don’t expect this kid to be going anywhere anytime soon, he is a smart player who works extremely hard and has enough skill to take advantage of opponents mistakes.  I love the thought of him playing on a 3rd line with O’Reilly for a long time.
  • Svatos had a team low 8:01 of ice time in his return.  He is starting to look like a poor man's Jonanthan Cheechoo.
Next game: @ Red Wings at 5MST tonight!  Say it with me... "Anyone But Detroit!"
