Long Pointies!

Game 4 of the Sharks and Ducks series saw the return of a Payton household favorite - “Long Pointies.” I’ll explain: During Anaheim’s 2007 Stanley Cup Run, my wife and I started to notice an Ducks fan who always seemed to get on TV when the Ducks scored in Anaheim. It was the middle-aged guy, with a backwards cap and a Ducks jersey, who must sit in the lower bowl in a corner, right next to cameramen. When the Ducks scored, he’d look right at the camera and do this ridiculous, alternating finger pointing routine. (or maybe its supposed to be guns, I’m not entirely sure) We nicknamed him “Long Pointies” after a Demetri Martin joke about carrots and oranges (that I don’t have enough time to explain).

We looked for him during 2007-08 Ducks games. He still seemed to get on with regularity and sometime we’d see 1 or 2 fans joining in on pointing craze. Pretty sure he made one or two Altitude broadcasts. But about halfway through the season, the cameras stopped showing ol’ Long Pointies. It seemed TV finally figured out that it wasn’t exactly spontaneous.

We missed the guy around here. We tried You Tube and Google searches, trying to find clips, pics, or at least a message board thread. No luck… But then, last night -- he returned!!! And we’ve got the picture to prove it. We missed you pal. Here’s to you Long Pointies!
